How to choose a baby’s name

Choosing the right name for your baby can be an uphill task. In some societies, the names might be predetermined with certain ancestry, religion, tradition or customary setting whereas in some societies you can choose any name you wish.  Remember your baby’s name will be there for life so take your time as you choose through thousands of names out there.
How to start
You can search online, there are directories with thousands of babies’ names, where you can pick a few names and discuss with your family, friends, and strangers. Remember the final decision is between you and your partner.

How to find the perfect name
Have a notebook and not down a name that strikes you or any name than you think of at any given time. This small list will help you when you sit with your family, friends or partner to make a decision. Consider giving your baby a name that is easy to pronounce, you don’t want to give your baby a name that would be difficult for people to pronounce well. Short first manes should be followed by long names e.g. Janet Jackson this always resonates well.

Make sure that the first and last names rhyme and are compatible. Think of unique names, this will always make your child’s name stand up from the rest. You don’t want your child to be called fat mike of tall mike whenever there is another person with the name mike e.g. in school.

You might also consider giving the child a name that relates him/her to the religion, belief, ancestry. E.g. grandfathers’ name etc. this can also be the middle name.

Distinguish the feminine from the masculine names; you should also give your baby a name that you know its meaning.

Remember by the end of the day, you and your partner should choose names that you like, this is just a guideline.
